An exciting new creative festival coming to Central Victoria on 20 OCTOBER 2024

We’re dedicated to inspiring young authors, illustrators and storytellers of all kinds (and really, all ages!) to express themselves, experiment and make great Art in a safe and supportive place.

Guided by a team of professional storytellers (including incredible local talent plus Australian award winners like John Marsden, Lucinda Gifford and Andy Jackson) there will be opportunities to share stories, ideas, images and dreams and develop your unique storytelling voice.

Located at the Newstead Arts Hub, the Festival will include a jam-packed program of Workshops, Author Talks, Mentoring, Art Demos, Books, Food Trucks + more!

Sign up to our newsletter and join our socials to get first access to the program, ticket sales and competitions. The festival is FREE, but tickets for some events will be strictly limited. We’d hate for you to miss out!

Please also GET IN TOUCH if you’d like to get involved with organising or supporting the festival. We need you!

Happy storytelling, and we’ll see you on 20 October.

Newstead Young Writers Festival…

Where is Newstead, you ask?

Situated on the stunning Loddon River, Newstead is a small, vibrant town with charm and character aplenty. There are cosy cafe's such as Dig Cafe, our busy community art gallery (The Arts Hub) and professional community art workshop called the Red Shed, local hotels, wineries, artist studios and more.

Newstead is a wonderful little secret nestled in the central goldfields. Wherever you’re travelling from, we can’t wait to welcome you!

The Arts Hub precinct will come alive on festival day, inside and out. The historic, and beautifully restored railway station will host workshops and give visitors a chance to browse some of the art on show. And the outdoor precinct will provide a wonderland of spaces including workshop and event marquees, food vans, free play and plenty of surprises in store to keep kids entertained for the day.
